In 2017, Caldas da Rainha hosts, for the first time, the WORLD PRESS CARTOON, the great annual event of international press humour drawings. This is the 12thedition of a worldwide projection salon that selects and awards every year the best cartoons published in newspapers and magazines all over the world.
The winning entries of the World Press Cartoon 2017 come from Brazil, Ecuador, France, Greece, Iran, Italy, Serbia and Switzerland. The prizes announcement will take place in the large auditorium of Caldas da Rainha Cultural and Congress Centre, on the 10thJune, at a live Music and Humour show attended by all the award-winning authors. 
To liven up the evening, there will be two renowned comedians: Portuguese comedy actress Maria Rueff and Elliot, a brilliant Belgian artist who has the ability to engage the public and tear out loud laughter on ever-surprising stage paths. The musical animation is from the Begin Big Band, whose repertoire brings us back to the 1950´s jazz classics.
The winning works are part of an exhibition that will be inaugurated later the same evening, also at the Cultural and Congress Centre.
António Antunes, Portuguese cartoonist, director of the salon, said: “It is with great pleasure that we present at Caldas da Rainha, the adopted land of Master Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, the 267 caricatures, editorial cartoons and gag drawings that, through the eyes of different cultures, tell us the story of a year as earlier told by their authors on the pages of newspapers from around the world. In the tranquillity of an exhibition hall, we can see works that make us smile as well as telling us a lot about topical issues, about the world going around and alsoabout timeless themes of the human condition”, At the World Press Cartoon 2017, 168 newspapers and magazines from 51 countries are represented.
They were selected by an international jury of cartoonists who met in Caldas da Rainhalast April chaired by the Salon Director and including Ross Thomson from Great Britain, Hermenegildo Sábat from Uruguay, Angel Boligán from Mexico, and Zoran Petrovic, from Germany. The exhibition will be open to the public with free admission between June 11 and August 10. The Italian artist Mariagrazia Quaranta or ‘GIO’ is one of the World Press Cartoon finalists.
The awards ceremony will take place on June 10 at 9:30 p.m. For those interested to attend, tickets are available at the Cultural and Congress Centre of Caldas da Rainha.

L’artista italiana Mariagrazia Quaranta, conosciuta come ‘GIO’, è una delle finaliste del World Press Cartoon.
Le opere vincenti fanno parte di una mostra che sarà inaugurata più tardi la stessa sera, anche presso il Centro Culturale e Congressuale.
